Hospitality in transition: institutional renewal and the architecture of expansion

Antonio Tejeda Encinas | CEO META Channel Corporation

In the superb setting of HIP – Horeca Professional Expo at IFEMA MADRID, I had the honour of taking part as a voter in the electoral assembly of the AEDH (Spanish Association of Hotel Directors). This is a pivotal moment for an organisation with 50 years of history which, under the leadership of its newly elected president, Mr Jesús Menéndez, and the new president of the AEDH Foundation, Mr Manuel Vegas Lara, faces the challenge of finally bridging its legacy and the demands of the 21st century. I wish them both every success in this new chapter.

But beyond the institutional side, these have been three days of intense business activity for META Channel. The hospitality sector is no longer driven solely by quality of service, but by the strength of its structures. Over these days we have been working on the early stages of a number of international deals, assessing regulatory feasibility and setting up the investment vehicles needed for business expansion.

The lesson from HIP is clear: connecting players from different countries to launch projects or consolidate those already up and running is not a matter of “networking”, but of architecture. For a hotel or tourism project to scale internationally, it needs a legal, economic and operational foundation that allows it not only to exist, but to sustain itself and grow with legal certainty in complex markets. That is the difference between having a hotel and having an expansion strategy.
