Fintech expanding across Europe · Financial services / Payments · Europe
The challenge
The fintech was operating in three European countries and had two issues to tackle at once: adapting its crypto-asset business to the new MiCA framework and strengthening its GDPR compliance before moving into new markets. Both had to be dealt with without interrupting operations and within the regulatory deadlines.
What we did
- We drew up a single roadmap reconciling MiCA’s requirements with those of the GDPR in every jurisdiction where the fintech operated, and went beyond a report: working with MiCA and data protection specialists from our network, we implemented the changes to processes, product and data governance.
- We re-engineered the platform code and built bespoke modules for crypto-asset traceability and the anonymisation of sensitive data.
- With lawyers from our network, we updated the terms and conditions, the privacy policies and the rest of the contractual documentation.
The outcome
- MiCA compliance achieved ahead of the regulatory deadline.
- GDPR compliance strengthened, with external certification.
- No disruption to operations during implementation.
- The fintech expanded into two new European markets with verified compliance.
