European retail company · E-commerce / Fashion · Spain and Ecuador
The challenge
The brand had an e-commerce model that worked and wanted to take it into the Andean region, starting with Ecuador. Three issues stood in the way: data protection rules, local e-commerce regulation and the lack of a legal structure from which to operate and import.
What we did
- We coordinated all the work on the ground with a legal and technology partner from our network in Ecuador, from analysing the data protection law to drafting the website’s terms and conditions.
- Through the same partner, the Ecuadorian company was incorporated and the first contracts with local logistics providers were arranged.
- We reported to the client at every milestone so that it could oversee the project from Europe.
The outcome
- Online shop up and running, and legally compliant, in Ecuador within 90 days.
- Compliance with Ecuador’s Organic Law on Personal Data Protection.
- Company incorporated and logistics contracts signed, allowing sales to begin.
- No exposure to regulatory penalties, and a base from which to expand into other Andean countries.
